Marie Slipiec

Dr. Marie Slipiec’s interest in animal care surfaced at a young age.  She grew up on a mixed farm near Gronlid, Saskatchewan.  There she was surrounded with a variety of animals; dogs, cats, cattle, pigs and chickens.  Early on she has a quest to improve the quality of their lives and ensure they had the best care possible.  After being introduced to the series of James Harriot books; a highschool visit to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine solidified her drive to become a veterinarian.

As a veterinarian she knew there were a variety of career paths that would allow her to help animals and people. After completing high school, she attended the University of Saskatchewan College of Agriculture for 2 years and was then accepted into the Western College of Veterinary Medicine.  After completing her 4 years in the veterinary college she graduated in 2002. At that time, her career opportunities brought her to Yorkton, where she has remained. She purchased Animal Management Services & Pet Clinic in 2009, which is now known as Yorkton Animal Health Centre.

As a veterinarian she examines, diagnoses and treats a variety of medical conditions in small and large animals as well as educating pet and livestock owners in preventative care. She works with pet owners to provide the best care and nutrition for their pet.  For livestock owners, she helps them to improve productivity and profitability through education on preventative medicine and best management practices. As the field of veterinary medicine continues to grow Dr. Slipiec enjoys Attending continuing education events to grow her body of knowledge. Dr. Slipiec’s special interests include: Preventative Care, animal welfare and nutrition. .

Dr. Slipiec and her husband Dale have 2 girls; Sara and Brooke. They own a cattle herd which keeps Dale and herself busy.  The rest of the time they enjoy spending with the girls at their activities and volunteering in the community.
